  • 26 May, 2008 - Scott Gomer Trail
    At 8 pm, Alpine Rescue requested assistance looking for two overdue hikers on Mount Beirstadt. Due to adverse weather conditions and low visibility, Alpine believed the two hikers got turned around and were heading down the Scott Gomer trail (as many hikers do). Alpine personnel and a PCSAR member located the missing parties on the Scott Gomer trail, 1/3 mile up from the Burning Bear Campground.
  • 24 May, 2008 - Bailey
    Page went out at approximately 8 pm for two lost teenage boys. The boys called in via cell phone estimating their location being between Burland Subdivision and Farmers Union. One team headed down the river from Farmers Union and the other set off from Burland. The boys kept heading up hill and eventually came out in the subdivision. Both boys were OK.
  • 17 May, 2008 - Mount Beirstadt
    At approximately 3 pm Fairplay dispatch received a 911 call stating a person with an injured knee was trapped in white-out conditions in the vacinity of Mount Beirstadt. Unsure of the exact location, PCSAR requested Alpine Rescue be contacted and dispatched to the Guanella Pass area. PCSAR was able to drive within 3 miles of the Guanella Pass summit before snow stopped vehicle progress. Two PCSAR members on snowmobiles then rode the last three miles to the pass summit and located one of the parties in the group. At this time, PCSAR discovered that no one was injured, merely tired and confused. Due to growing concern about the duration of the white-out they had decided to call for help. The individual was given a snowmobile ride down to their vehicle.
  • 11 May, 2008 - Three Mile Trail
    Call came in at approximately 3 pm for a male with an injured leg up on Three Mile Trail off the Guanella Pass Rd. Initial reports had the injured parties location about a mile up the trail and a little off the trail. Hasty teams headed up the trail with a medical bag, litter and wheel. Upon arriving on scene, the RP (reporting party) pointed out the injured parties location, right on top of a big rock mound. Initial estimates was the evac would be an 800 foot low angle rescue. At this time, members that were still at the vehicles loaded their packs with ropes, gear, helmets, and climbing harnesses and headed up the trail. Once the injured leg was splinted, the patient was secured into the litter. Two anchor/lower teams were established to make the long lower as seemless as possible. One team built the initial anchor while the second team built the next anchor below. Each team would leap frog each other all the way down the mountain. This turned out to be a 1200 foot low angle- just to get to the trail. Another 1.25 miles of wheeling the litter down the trail got the patient to the awaiting ambulance. Thanks to PCF and N.   • 05 March, 2008 - County Rd. 18
    An all call page went out at approximately 8:30 PM for a medical situation on County Rd. 18. PCSAR hooked up it's snowmobiles and headed toward Fairplay and met Sheriff and Fire personnel at the command scene. Nine miles in on the county road and about 1/2 mile south in the deep snow, 4 young individuals decided to have a party. In a cabin, the 3 males and 1 female combined beer and mushrooms for a truly scary mix. Several members became unconscious and luckily, the female was able to phone for help. PCSAR, along with deputies and EMT's, located the cabin, and brought out the individuals one by one. Smowmobiles were used until the snow became to deep, and travel reverted to snowshoes. The party gang was taken to waiting ambulances where they were provided necessary treatment. All PCSAR personnel were back home at around 3:30 AM.
  • 01 February, 2008 - Park County
    During the month of February, Park County was hit extremely hard with snow storm after snow storm. Many residents on the Fairplay side of Kenosha Pass were stranded and in need of medicine, food, and in some instances shelter. PCSAR along with other emergency services provide the services needed.
