Park County Search and Rescue is sponsoring a raffle to raise funds for equipment. We'd like to invite everyone to stop by our booth during Burro Days in Fairplay, July 26 and Sunday, July 27, for your raffle tickets.
The first, second and third drawings will be for $1,000, $500, and $250 respectively. A queen size, custom made Colorado quilt will also be raffled off. The tickets are priced at 5 for $20 or $5 each.
You can also call Dick Nichols at 838-4645 on the Bailey side or Fred Burdick at 836-3686 on the Fairplay side for tickets.

Bailey Dayz will be held on June 21 and 22, 2008. But this year, there is a new twist. PCSAR will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner and "Dancing With The SARS' night on June 20, 2008. This event will be held at The Farmers' Union on County Road 68 on the outskirts of Bailey from 6-10 PM. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for youngsters 6-12. Little ones under 6 years of age admitted free. Come and cut the rug while supporting your local Search & Rescue group. - 01 June, 2008
To prepare for possible future events, PCSAR, along with the Civil Air Patrol competed "a downed aircraft" scenario on Sunday, June 1, 2008. An ELT (locator beacon) was placed somewhere in Park County and PCSAR was charged with locating the "downed aircraft", medical treatment and transportation of any survivors. Teams staged at Kenosha Pass and were sent in all directions with Direction Finding equipment (L-Pers) in search of the ELT signal. The ELT was located in the Lost Park area and medical treatment began when teams arrived on scene. - 26 May, 2008
On May 27, 2008 PCSAR board members voted six individuals in as regular PCSAR members. The six had completed the new member's class and made a great showing with their attitude and attendance. Come and learn how to tie rescue knots, rappel down the mountain, read a compass and follow bearings. If that's not your "cup of tea" how about learning how to medically treat an injured hiker or learn how to simply find a lost hiker. Classes start this coming Wednesday night, April 28th, at 7:00 PM at the SAR building in Bailey. Come out and see how much fun you can have while helping others. - 06 March, 2008
The PCSAR Board Members set the dates for the April 08 New Member's Class. The class will begin on April 23, 2008 at the SAR Building in Bailey. The classroom session will begin promptly at 7:00 PM. The first session will focus on what it will take to be an active member of the Park County Team. The other three classroom sessions will be held on April 30, May 7, and May 14, 2008. Field sessions will begin on April 26, May 4, May 10, and May 18, 2008. For field sessions, all new members will meet at the SAR Building at 9:00 AM and then will proceed to the field location. Members of the Park County Search and Rescue team will hold a special training session on avalanche beacons. This training is free and open to the public. Training topics will include how a beacon works and how to use the beacon in transmit and search modes. If you are a winter time outdoor individual and unsure how to use this important piece of equipment, this training is for you. The training will be held at the Park County Search and Rescue building in Bailey. Class will be Feb. 9, 2008 and start promptly at 10:00 am. Hope to see you there. - 05 January, 2008
The kick off party was well attended by members, family, and county officials. The evening began with some well deserved socializing followed by the chili cookoff. Judges had a hard decision but awarded 1st prize to Pam Morrison. In appreciation of their hard work and dedication, Dick and Jean Nichols were presented with tickets to a downtown play. The night also alllowed the team to show off the new SAR building while discussions began on winter training. - 28 December, 2007
As 2007 winds to an end, the PCSAR family readies itself for upcoming winter missions. Trainings will consist of cold days and nights to prepare each member for every possible winter scenario. A group of 8 new members graduated Sunday and were recognized with a graduation lucheon. Hamburgers, hotdogs, salads, and deserts were the order of the day when PCSAR came together to celebrate. PCSAR is growing rapidly with dedicated individuals who enjoy the outdoors and enjoy helping those in distress in the back country. Congratualations team!! - 06 October, 2007
The 2nd annual golf tournment was held with over 40 golfers testing their skills on the Lakewood course. A great lunch was offered and most golfers walked away with a variety of door prizes. Thanks to everyone in helping make this another great outing. - 03 July, 2007
FORE!!! Unfortunately, one of the first words any golfer learns, but it's that time again!! The 2nd annual PCSAR Golf Tournment has been scheduled for October 6, 2007. The games will be held at the Homestead Golf Course in Lakewood, CO. Last years event was a barrel of fun and it appears that this year's tournment will be even better. Come out and suppor PCSAR and watch normal human bodies be contorted into strange and unusual shapes as they try and strike the little white ball. The 2nd New Member class has been scheduled for October 2007. The 1st class which concluded in May was a hugh success and PCSAR welcomed 6 new dedicated members to the team. The class will consist of 4 classroom sessions followed by 4 field excercises. Students will be introduced to knots, medical treatment, PCSAR policies and procedures. The new member class will provide a good overview of the team and what is expected of members. Open House for the new Park County Search and Rescue building is scheduled for July 8, 2007 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The new building which is located at the south end of Bailey will be open to the public and PCSAR members will be on hand to answer any questions and to give tours. PCSAR has had tremendous support from everyone in Park and surrounding counties and want to share their excitement by showing you, the public, what you helped us build. This month saw the successful completion of the 1st new members course. The course consisted of 4 classroom sessions followed by 4 field exercises and a physical fitness test on the Ben Tyler trail. ON June 12th, new members were given certificates of completion, PCSAR hats and T-shirts in recognition of their work. The 2nd annual PCSAR garage sale concluded and was deemed a huge success. With the support of locals and others, the sale set a new bench mark for fund raising for PCSAR. It can only get better. The 2nd annual PCSAR garage sale will be held Memorial Day Weekend beginning May 25 through May 28, 2007. The sale will be held at the new PCSAR building in Bailey. Doors will open at 9:00 AM each morning. This year, baked goods will also be available for purchase. All proceeds will go directly to PCSAR to help fund equipment purchases and building costs. Don't miss this opportunity!! The new members class is almost here. Beginning May 2, 2007 a new era unfolds for the Park County Search and Rescue Team. This is an organized effort to enlist and encourage residents of Park County to participate and become members of a very special team of people. The new class will be held on four consecutive Wednesday nights followed by one day of weekend training after each classroom session. Topics of training include team procedures and protocols, responsibilities and level of commitment required. Safety in the field will be covered as well as navigation, types of searches, and clue awareness. Want to learn knot tying? This is your chance. Learn to tie the knots that aid in the various types of rescues. But maybe the field is not your idea of service! Well, then become an associate member and help the team with fund raising, food support during a search, and many other activities that require a desire to help. Don't miss out! We need and want YOU! The date for the new member class has been set. May 2, 2007 will mark the first of four classroom sessions to be held at the new PCSAR building in Bailey. Field sessions will provide hands on training on the weekends following the classroom sessions. The new PCSAR building is almost complete. Carpet is to be layed the first week of April and plans for the first new members class is taking shape. The exact date has yet to be set but will be in May. Topics for the new class will include team procedures, member's responsibility, commitment, equipment, safety, navigation, types of searches, clue awareness, knots and anchors. - 05 March, 2007
PCSAR members gathered on this date to hold the first organized board meeting in the new SAR building. Newly donated chairs and a couple of construction tables were pulled together to make up the discussion area. Business was conducted with a new sense of excitement and plans for Open House were discussed. - 16 February, 2007
Construction progress continues. Kitchen cabinets, appliances, bathroom vanities, showers, and toilets are in place. Kitchen countertops and flooring has been installed in the kitchen, bathrooms, and in the office. Surround sound speakers have been installed in the ceiling for training purposes along with placement of the TV. - 28 January, 2007
Construction progress is making great gains. This date showed marked improvement in the completion of the interior. PCSAR members primed and painted the buildings interior while Southwest Heating installed the second of two downstairs heaters. Carpenters began installing kitchen cabinets and appliances along with bathroom vanities, showers, and toilets. - 26 January, 2007
Building progress continues. The drywall and insulation phase of construction is completed. While the next phase of interior priming and painting is being readied, plans are being laid to conduct new member training in the new facility in February 2007. - 23 January, 2007
Board elections for 2007 were held at the VFW in Shawnee. Installed were; Pete Belair as Field Director, Chris Geiger continues as President, Dick Nichols elected as Vice President, Dave White elected as Secretary, Kathy Pickart elected as Treasurer. Kathy Stuerke will assume Equipment Director Duties and Marcia McMahon will use her talents in fund rasing events. - 14 January, 2007
Building construction is making progress toward the light at the end of the tunnel. The insulation phase has been completed and the drywall has been installed throughout the building. Shortly, wall texture and painting will take place. - 9 January, 2007
Fund rasing events are in the works. Members should expect a phone call asking for help in organizing and implementing the individual events. This years events will include Bailey Days, Burro Days, the 2nd annual golf tournment, garage sale, and music festival. Board nominations were also held at this meeting.
